Upcoming Men’s and Women’s Choruses Promises to Be Inspiring

The Men’s and Women’s Choruses will perform in the University Auditorium at Cartwright Hall

Cartwright Hall is located at 650 Hilltop Dr., with free parking located off of Terrace Drive.

Each group will perform its own collection of chorus literature, as well as a collaborative piece to close the show. Douglas Beery conducts the Men’s Chorus, and Dawn Wagner-Casey conducts the Women’s Chorus.

The Men’s Chorus performance will include “Freedom Come” by Ben Allway, “In Taberna” from “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff, “When I Hear Music” by Michael Martin and “Fight on for KSU!” by Wagner-Casey and Chad Kendall. The Women’s Chorus will perform works including “Hotaru Koi” by Ro Ogura, “Surrexit Pastor Bonus” by Felix Mendelssohn and a traditional Kenyan piece called “Wana Baraka.”

Both the Men’s and Women’s Choruses tour regularly and frequently collaborate with other ensembles. Students from a variety of disciplines and majors participate in the Men’s and Women’s Choruses.

The Women’s Chorus performs works selected from a variety of periods and musical styles. The Men’s Chorus repertoire includes many styles with special emphasis on the standards of male chorus literature. 

Tickets are $8 for adults, and $5 for seniors, staff and faculty, all non- students, and graduate students. The event is free for all full-time, undergraduate students. Tickets are available weekdays noon to 5 p.m. at the Performing Arts Box Office, located in the lobby of the Roe Green Center in the Music and Speech Building at 1325 Theatre Dr. on the Kent Campus. The Performing Arts Box Office accepts Visa, MasterCard and Discover, in addition to cash and checks.

The Cartwright Hall box office will open one hour prior to the performance for walk-up sales, and will also accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover. Tickets and more information are also available by calling 330-672-ARTS (2787) or visiting www.kent.edu/music.
