Poets at the Wick Poetry Center share their writing with each other

Join the Wick Poetry Center student workers and interns for a free workshop each week. Wick Weekly invites students and community members to engage in informal writing prompts and activities. No prior writing experience is required.

*Wick Weekly follows 's Academic Calendar, and will not occur on days when the University is closed or classes are on break.

As part of our Teaching Poetry in the Schools project we are excited to welcome Dimitri Reyes to . Dimitri Reyes is a Boricua multidisciplinary artist, content creator, and educator from Newark, New Jersey. As an experienced teaching artist and accomplished poet, Dimitri will work with our emerging poets on teaching practices and also offer a public performance open to all. Dimitri is the author of Papi Pichón (Get Fresh Books, 2023), Every First and Fifteenth, the winner of the Digging Press 2020 Chapbook Award, and the poetry guide Shadow Work for Poets.

Marilyn Chin was born in Hong Kong. She is the author of six poetry collections and a novel. She is the winner of the 2020 Ruth Lily Prize in Poetry, the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award, the PEN Oakland/Josephine Miles Literary Award, and a Radcliffe Institute fellowship, among other honors. Presently, she serves as a chancellor of the Academy of American Poets and lives in San Diego. 

Colin Dekeersgieter is a poet, editor, and teacher living in North Carolina with his wife, writer Alisa Koyrakh. He holds an MA from the CUNY, Graduate Center and an MFA from New York University. Colin currently serves as the poetry editor for The Carolina Quarterly and is a PhD candidate at UNC, Chapel Hill.

Wick Poetry Center at the CVNP

The Wick Poetry Center is partnering with the Ohio Center for the Book, Cleveland Public Library, and Cinematheque at the Cleveland Institute of Art to explore how writing about place continues to change and remain vital. This reading will feature Ohio Poet Laureate, Kari Gunter-Seymour, and other contributors to our anthology, Light Enters the Grove: Exploring Cuyahoga Valley National Park Through Poetry. The event will be followed by a film screening at the Cinematheque at 7pm. 

 

Giving Voice

Giving Voice features local students (grades 3-12) and community members. All material is created in Wick outreach programs, including workshops led by undergraduates enrolled in the service-learning course “Teaching Poetry in the Schools.”
