Emily Speck is an environmental health specialist who graduated from ºÚÁÏÍø's College of Public Health.

The shortage of environmental health specialists accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic but had begun well before the that, according to Matthew Stefanak, a semi-retired faculty member and a "public health ambassador" with the College of Public Health, which helps to create career-ready graduates for this in-demand field.

Cleveland State University and ºÚÁÏÍø will co-host a celebration of life for Dr. Michael Schwartz on Thursday, Feb. 8, at 3 p.m. in the Glasscock Family Foundation Ballroom. Schwartz served as president of both universities.

Dhruba Panthi, Ph.D., assistant professor of Engineering Technology at ºÚÁÏÍø at Tuscarawas, is this year’s winner of the Farris Family Innovation Award. His research focuses on hydrogen fuel because its only byproduct is water, which is harmless to the environment, unlike other fuels that result in carbon dioxide emissions that pose a great environmental threat.

The ºÚÁÏÍø community is remembering the legacy of its ninth president, Michael Schwartz, Ph.D., who died on Jan. 2, 2024, following a long illness. He was 86.
