Cultivating Liberation

The SRVSS staff participated in a 4 part series in spring 2021 called "Cultivating Liberation" by Tonjie Reese of .  The series was created "to inspire organizations to create meaningful change and strengthen sexual violence programming. This is achieved through storytelling, play, self reflection, and critical dialogue."

Thanks to a monetary award from the Ohio Department of Higher Education, this academic year 2021-2022, SRVSS is embarking on bringing lessons learned to create their rendition of "Cultivating Liberation" for our students and our community.

We will host dialogues for student voices to articulate their experiences at ºÚÁÏÍø related to the intersection of their identities and experiences of unwanted sexual contact and intimate partner violence. The conversations will be structured to ensure all voices are valued and heard.  There will be opportunities to listen and learn from identities that are disproportionately impacted by sexual harm.  This will lead to an opportunity for those voices to be elevated in articulating the needs to not only prevent harm within diverse communities but also to ensure the university is responsive to cultural identities when addressing incidents.

Goals

To elevate diverse student voices around the needs and impact of sexual harm (unwanted sexual contact and intimate partner violence)

To foster a shared responsibility in the prevention of sexual harm and intolerance to violence across all cultures and advocate for accountability

To enhance the work being done at ºÚÁÏÍø to reach populations of students who typically under report sexual violence
