Location, Transportation & Housing

Considered the Spanish center of art and finance, Madrid is a clash of Neoclassical architecture and fancy boulevards with modern designs and beautiful parks. Students will be able to enjoy an exquisite culinary experience from bite-sized tapas to trendy bistros. This capital city holds a wonderful charm, and its cultural richness and love for soccer (aka football, as it's known in Europe) make it unique and vivid.

Spain is located in the Iberian peninsula and is composed of autonomous regions; Madrid is one of them. It is the third most populous region in the country, after Andalusia in the South and Catalonia in the North. Since Madrid is located right in the heart of Spain, students will have easy access to all parts of the country.

In Madrid, most people will speak Castilian Spanish, which is typically easier for non-native speakers to understand, as opposed to other languages spoken in the country such as Catalan, Galician, Basque, and Aranese. This makes Madrid one of the best places to study abroad for students who want to improve their Spanish skills and experience one of the world鈥檚 most popular travel destinations.

Airports

Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Su谩rez Airport is the main airport in Madrid and is located approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes from the UEM Villaviciosa campus by public transportation.

Local Transit

Students can navigate Madrid using buses or the metro. For travel farther from Madrid, students can use trains or the airport.

Housing

UEM does not offer student housing, but anyone studying in Madrid will find many local apartments for rent in the city.

Visa Information

A visa is a document required by many countries, in addition to your passport, that allows you to enter the country for a certain purpose (whether that鈥檚 to stay, transit, or exit). Essentially, it is the country's government giving you legal permission to enter their country to travel, study, work, etc.

Please note, it is solely the responsibility of the student to:

  • determine the entry, transit, and stay requirements for the country or countries to which they will travel,
  • and to apply for any necessary visas, stay permits, or any other immigration requirements of the host nation(s).

It is also the responsibility of the student to:

  • verify the correct documentation required to apply for the required visa(s),
  • apply for the visa(s) early enough to ensure there is enough processing time,
  • and pay any fees associated with obtaining the visa(s).

黑料网's Office of Global Education is available to provide general guidance regarding student visa requirements and procedures; however, each student who travels abroad is expected to manage their own legal obligations regarding international travel.

It is strongly recommended by the Office of Global Education that you carefully review the appropriate consulate or embassy website for the nation(s) you plan to visit in order to determine current entry/study/exit visa requirements.
