The city of Paris has a great transportation system, with 16 Metro Lines running through it and many train stations nearby that will allow students to explore the city of Paris and its surrounding areas.

In-Country Orientation

Upon your arrival in Paris, you'll join an orientation designed to help you make the most out of your study abroad experience and achieve the following goals:

  • Orient yourself to the city of Paris.
  • Develop the awareness you need to observe and learn from different cultures.
  • Discover the businesses, organizations, and other important places in the city.
Location & Transportation

Paris, France

One of the most visited cities in the world, Paris is an architecturally robust location with world-renowned cuisine and illustrious art.

  • Explore the city as you walk along the same streets that some of the most prolific writers and artists have walked.
  • You can also take boat tours along the canals for an even more unique view of the aesthetics of Paris.
  • The cosmopolitan city has multiple landmarks to visit, including the Louvre, the National Museum of Natural History, and the highly successful Paris Shakespeare & Company.

Paris is more than just a tourist destination. It is a site bursting with culture and education.

  • Visit the bookshops known not only for their selection of books but also for their timeless architecture.
  • You can also walk through the Latin Quarter, which dates back to the Middle Ages, where students would attend the Sorbonne and learn Latin.
  • What's more, Paris offers a unique cuisine that combines both tradition and innovation. You can explore new flavors in an international city that provides an energetic city life.

Transportation

Airports

The nearest airports in Paris are Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), which is the main international airport. You can use Orly Airport and Beauvais-Tille Airport, which primarily serves budget airlines and intra-European flights.

Local Transportation

Students have many transportation options in Paris. The cheapest, easiest and fastest way to get around Paris is the metro. There are 16 metro lines and about 300 metro stations. You can purchase a Metro pass upon arrival in downtown Paris. This pass allows use of the metro, bus, and trams within the city day and night.

Beyond the city limits (for example, when traveling to/from the airport or Versailles) you can use the Suburban Express Railway (RER). You鈥檒l need separate tickets here, as your city metro pass will not be valid on these journeys.

You can also travel via transilien (regional train), tramway and buses.

Housing

Students stay in centrally located apartments, allowing for an immersive experience. Apartments are fully furnished and shared with other KSU study abroad students. Private apartments may be requested, however there is an additional cost and there are limited units available.

Students are encouraged to cook in their apartments and get out into the city to explore the diverse culinary scene that Paris has to offer. You can practice your French while picking up produce and meals from the various markets in Paris. When budgeting, you can expect to spend about 50 Euros daily for meals and snacks.

"My best advice is say yes! Even if it鈥檚 something that you鈥檙e not sure you like, or something new, just do it. I鈥檝e had the greatest study abroad experiences because I have been more open minded."
