This course provides students with a unique opportunity to apply circular economy concepts and systems thinking in order to critically evaluate business problems and data to support responsible decision making. You鈥檒l spend ten days abroad collaborating with fellow students and Irish organizations to see first-hand how firms are managing the transition to a circular economy.

Program Highlights

On this 10-day study abroad program, you鈥檒l be able to:

  • Collaborate with global companies and international organizations in Ireland to explore practical applications of circularity aimed at creating a more sustainable economic growth model.鈥
  • Meet industry experts at the Guinness Enterprise Centre, Airfield Estate, the American Chamber of Commerce, IDA Ireland, and Enterprise Ireland.
  • Visit cultural sites such as Howth Fishing Village, the Book of Kells, Glendalough Monastic City, and Wicklow Mountains National Park.

Application Process

You will need to complete a 黑料网 Education Abroad application. These quick steps will help walk you through the process.

1. Start an Education Abroad Application

When you click the "Apply Now" button (located towards the top and bottom of this page), you will be brought to the Education Abroad application system where you can view program costs and start an application. Be sure to submit your application before the deadline!

2. Guest Application (If applicable)

Are you a student at another university? To apply for a 黑料网 education abroad program, you will first need to apply for admission to 黑料网 as a 鈥Guest Student鈥. Please apply as either an 鈥淯ndergraduate Guest Student鈥 or as a 鈥淕raduate Guest Student鈥, depending on your course level.

Once you have applied and been accepted as a 黑料网 student, you will receive an email with your FlashLine login credentials. Activate your account and then proceed to the next step, which is to apply to the Education Abroad program of your interest. You can return to this page and follow the 鈥淎pply Now鈥 button to start that application.

3. Wait for Acceptance

Once you have submitted your study abroad program application, it will be reviewed by the faculty leader. Applications are evaluated on a rolling basis. You should hear back from us within one month.

4. Commit to the Program

If you are accepted, you need to log back into your application by going to and clicking LOGIN. Once you see the name of your program, you need to click on it and commit (i.e., accept your offer of admission).

Course Description:

This course introduces MBA students to the fundamentals of the circular economy, including terminology, principles, theories, models, and mindsets. The focus will be on learning and implementing the Circular Economy Model (CEM), which is now globally recognized and has the potential to profoundly impact humanity by improving economic well-being while preserving the natural world for current and future generations.

As part of your coursework and study abroad experience, you will identify enterprises and products in which Irish firms have a comparative advantage and explain how the country is transitioning to a circular economy. Through these examples and face-to-face meetings in Dublin and Kilkenny, you will also uncover opportunities for American companies to collaborate with Irish firms.

Below is a tentative itinerary for this program. Sequence, sites, and departure city are subject to changes in availability and cost.

DAY 1

  • Depart from Cleveland to Dublin, Ireland.

DAY 2

  • Meet the group upon arrival at Dublin Airport.
  • Tour of Howth Fishing Village.
  • Transfer by private coach to Dublin.
  • Evening orientation meeting and group dinner.

DAY 3

  • See The Book of Kells.
  • Tour of Glendalough Monastic City.
  • Explore Wicklow Mountains National Park.

DAY 4

  • Visit the Guinness Enterprise Centre (), Ireland's home for entrepreneurs.

DAY 5

  • Visit the GEC again.
  • Tour the sustainable food hub .
  • Group lunch.

  • Transfer to Kilkenny

Dublin, Ireland

Located in the North Atlantic Ocean, Ireland is a European island divided into two countries:

  • Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom and uses the pound sterling as its currency, and
  • the Republic of Ireland, which is part of the European Union and uses the euro.

The official languages are Irish and English. The population of the Republic of Ireland consists of roughly 5 million people, compared to Northern Ireland鈥檚 1.9 million.

Ireland continues to rank as a top performing economy in Europe and one of the fastest growing advanced economies in the world.

  • Ireland鈥檚 highly educated population has been a key driver of economic success (3rd level attainment among ages 30-34 of 55.4% vs EU average 40.3%).

Students will spend the majority of this study abroad program in the capital city of Dublin and the surrounding area. We鈥檒l also head south for four days to explore Kilkenny, one of Ireland's most cosmopolitan cities and a hidden gem in the heart of Ireland鈥檚 Ancient East.

Dublin is one of the six UNESCO cities of literature, and it is the birthplace of the famous author Oscar Wilde. Literature runs all throughout the city and there are plenty of book festivals and world-class libraries. The city is also known for its wonderful museums, gardens, Saint Patrick celebrations, and of course, its world famous Guinness Beer.

Transportation

The program fee covers all instructional costs, transportation to and from Dublin airport, as well as transportation to and from the hotel to all site visits.

The program fee doesn鈥檛 cover airfare. You will arrive and depart from Dublin Airport (DUB), Ireland.

Housing & Meals

Students will enjoy double occupancy in a 4-star hotel in Dublin and Kilkenny.

Meals will include a full Irish breakfast every day, two group dinners and one lunch.

Students are responsible for all other meals and snacks.

Pre-Departure Orientation

Prior to your study abroad experience, you will participate in a mandatory pre-departure orientation hosted by the Office of Global Education. During this orientation, you will be provided with information including but not limited to:

  • international travel procedures;
  • in-country resources;
  • health and safety resources and information;
  • culture shock and resources to help prepare for living abroad.

All students are encouraged to register with the prior to departure.

If vaccinations or medications are needed according to the CDC, you should make arrangements for appointments with your healthcare provider or the DeWeese Health Center as soon as possible. Appointment openings at the DeWeese Health Center are limited and vaccines may need to be ordered, which takes time. Please note that not all immunizations are available at the DeWeese Health Center.
