Departmental Events and Resources

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry hosts several events and opportunities for students to connect with the Department and with one another.

Whether it's an introduction to the Department, a mentor, or an opportunity to watch a demo you're looking for, you will find it here!

New Major Orientation: Careers, Opportunities, Scholarships for Majors, & Information for Chemists (COSMIC) Kickoff

Prior to the start of Fall classes, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry hosts an orientation session for new majors called COSMIC Kickoff. While this event is tailored to incoming chemistry majors, it is open to all students, including current majors. Attendees will learn about the curriculum and degree programs, careers in chemistry, undergraduate research opportunities, and student groups and employment opportunities. In addition, representatives from the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) and 黑料网's College of Podiatric Medicine are available to talk to students about admissions to their programs. Faculty advisors are also in attendance to meet with students and introduce themselves, and food and raffle prizes are available. Look for announcements about the COSMIC Kickoff as we approach the Fall semester, or reach out to our Undergraduate Office (chemug@kent.edu) with questions!

Chemistry Connections Mentoring Program

Chemistry Connections is a peer mentoring program for both undergraduate and graduate students that allows more senior students the opportunity to serve as mentors to newer students. Newer students then have an additional way to connect with and get more information from their colleagues. Students who choose to participate in the program can meet as often as they feel comfortable, and in whatever manner they prefer - whether this is through email, meeting electronically, or meeting in person. An email is sent to all undergraduate majors and graduate students at the beginning of the Fall semester with a registration link for any student wishing to serve as a mentor, or looking to have a mentor. Any questions about the program can be directed to our Graduate Office (chemgc@kent.edu).
