KSU Precision Flight Team takes third in NIFA’s Regional SAFECON

STORY UPDATE: The Precision Flight Team won third place overall at the National
Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) regional Safety and Flight Evaluation Conference (SAFECON)
October 14-19 at The Ohio State University.

Nineteen members of ’s (KSU) Precision Flight Team are competing in the October 14-19 at The Ohio State University.

Seventy-nine teams from 10 regions compete in nine flying and ground events, with winners qualifying for the National SAFECON Competition.

“My passion is to see young aviators grow to compete and succeed in the best region in the nation,” says George Armann, KSU Flight Team coach and advisor. “This (competition) is the Top Gun of general aviation.”

The creation of NIFA is attributed to the development and advancement in aviation education and to promote and foster safety in aviation. In 2017, placed second overall in the Safety category.

“This is the best team I’ve seen in the three years I’ve been with the team,” says Team Captain Ryan Flanagan. “I feel really good about this competition and how far we’ve come.”

Overall Team Champions – Third Place
Safety Award – First Place
Ground Events – Third Place
Flying Events Team Champions – Third Place

Tyler Crandall – Aircraft Recognition – First Place
