36th Annual Telly Awards
TeleProductions won three bronze Telly Awards for productions created by staff and our student crew.
The Telly Awards are one of the most prestigious awards for local, regional and national video productions, films and commercials. According to the Telly Award’s website, each year more than 12,000 entries are submitted for judging from all 50 states and five continents.
Silver and bronze Telly Awards are given to productions that meet requirements based on a high standard of merit. While entries do not compete against each other, judges have specific criteria they look for in award-winners.
All judges are previous Telly Award winners and serve on the Silver Telly Council.
Students Gain Real World Experience, Recognition
Behind-the-scenes of the award-winning were two Students: senior electronic media major Mike Donelan and junior electronic media major Dante Gramuglia.
Both students have been with TeleProductions since their first year at and their hard work has now been recognized by the prestigious Silver Telly Council.
“The video that was submitted was two different ones that I married together for award submission,” Donelan said. “The first half played prior to when the team’s starting lineups were announced. The second half played right before tip off.”
While the pre-lineup video was filmed and edited within a two-week time frame, the pre-tipoff video took Donelan more time to edit. The pre-tipoff video created the Athletics logo through various video clips of the team’s highlights. This took four different edits of the logo, as well as modeling each video to fit within the restraints of the logo.
The video was created through collaboration with the men’s basketball team, who Donelan said was very cooperative in helping TeleProductions create their vision.
“I just love the way it came together. A lot of the time when we have ideas its hard to put what is on our heads on the computer screen, but I think Mike did an awesome job of laying out the design of the logo in [editing software] and it came out just how we pictured,” Gramuglia said.
Along with creating the Athletics logo, a 3D graphic of the MACC is shown in the video as well. Other effects were used within the video as well, such as making the player’s yellow jerseys become a visual focal point throughout the production.
While the students are still waiting to hear back about how the Men’s Wrestling Entrance production scored, Gramuglia said he was very happy about the Men’s Basketball video getting recognized.
“We had been waiting to hear if we had won anything for so long that we just kind of forgot about it. Then when we got the news we were all ecstatic in the office,” Gramuglia said.
