Leadership Center Names Isabella Alvarino January 2021 Student Leader of the Month

Freshman Fashion Design major Isabella “Zaz” Alvarino is the January recipient of the Leadership Center's Student Leader of the Month award.

An active member on campus, Alvarino is involved in seven organizations, on the dean’s list and is a Gold Medal congressional award recipient. She also holds leadership roles as a Peer Leadership Training Course student and First-Year Intern for Undergraduate Student Government.

The Student Leader of the Month program seeks to recognize students for excellence in leadership through campus and community involvement.

She was nominated by Undergraduate Student Government President, Tiera Moore.

“Isabella is deserving of the award because her work with the Undergraduate Student Government embodies the Leadership Community,” said Moore. “She is never afraid of a challenge and is always looking for another task to complete; it is not often that I am so personally inspired by a student who is younger than me, but she reminded me what it looks to lead with your heart.”

Alvarino was shocked by the announcement.

“I took a huge chance moving seven hours away from my home in Greensboro, North Carolina to go to school where I knew no one,” she said. “I was not expecting any sort of reward for the activities I have done or the projects I have helped with; I have truly fallen in love with , and have formed a passion for helping my fellow students by becoming a leader on campus.”

For being Student Leader of the Month, Alvarino received a commemorative certificate, a t-shirt, $15 gift card to the bookstore along with recognition on the Leadership Center website, monthly newsletter, and @KentStateLeads Instagram page.
