The College of Public Health welcomes Tianyuan Guan (Ti ann yuan gwaan), assistant professor to this fall. Dr. Guan completed both her master of public health and her doctorate in biostatistics from the Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She earned her medical degree in clinical medicine at Taishan Medical University, China. Dr. Guan’s primary research interest is sample size calculations in a variety of research settings. During her graduate studies, she provided statistical consulting in prostate cancer research and e-cigarette smoking among middle and high school students. Dr. Guan brings a broad knowledge and skills in biostatistics including survival analysis and data science.
According to Dr. Guan, when she selected she immediately felt comfortable with the interview team and considered the College of Public Health as her new home. “People in our department are very supportive. I am so lucky and happy to join ,” said Dr. Guan. She lives in Peninsula, which is great because one of her wishes was to be near Lake Erie, and in her free time she relaxes playing the lute. “My research for this semester focuses on the interruption during the triage interview for ER nurses and on e-cigarette smoking among youths,” Guan said.
