Erik Heidemann joined the Political Science department at in 2012, quickly becoming a popular colleague and professor. Erik taught a range of courses on voting behavior, research methods, and American politics. He inspired his students and cheered their successes, mentoring and teaching every step of the way. He similarly inspired his colleagues, making the office a fun and thought-provoking place to be. In September of his second year with the department, he passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. His death shook our community. Erik was a valued and well-respected member of our faculty. Colleagues and students alike appreciated his humor, his insight, and his commitment to stellar research and instruction. He is missed.
To honor and memorialize the life and contribution of Erik Heidemann, two beautiful trees with foliage representing his alma mater Ohio State and home here at have been planted on the north side of Bowman Hall. The Heidemann Memorial will be formally dedicated on Thursday, April 20th, 2017, at 1:30. A reception will follow the dedication in the Center for Undergraduate Excellence. The dedication is open to all who wish to attend.
We would like to extend a sincere “thank you” to Erik’s parents, Marlinda and David, who have enabled us to honor Erik in this way, and who we know grieve this loss most deeply.
