Legacies Change Lives - Nicholas Spicer, ’22

Nicholas Spicer, ’22, is a recipient of the June E. Stevenson Scholarship in Education – as well as a very determined young man. A junior physical education and health education major, he decided early on that he wanted to become a walk-on for the football team.

“I did everything I could and ended up making the team from a hosted tryout,” he says. “The scholarship I received is very similar to that tryout. It has given me a better opportunity to showcase who I am and want to be.”

He used the funds from the Stevenson Scholarship to cover his tuition costs.

“Being a student-athlete who is not on an athletic scholarship is not easy,” he says. “We do the same required work but don’t have the same support. Now I can focus on my studies and work toward my goal of achieving a 3.4 GPA.”

Nicholas is also learning the importance of paying it forward.

“This scholarship has made me feel truly blessed. I want to make an impactful legacy like Ms. Stevenson did here at , and give back to the communities I will be involved in when I become a teacher.”
