Industry professionals from more than a dozen companies and organizations across our region will offer relevant career advice at Communications Connection, a networking event sponsored by ’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA Kent) and Franklin Advertising Associates (FAA, formerly JMC’s Ad Club). The event will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Franklin Hall first-floor lobby. Although geared toward public relations, advertising, marketing and communications students, Communication Connection is open to students of all majors who are looking for professional development opportunities.
Professionals will participate in roundtable discussions with students on a variety of topics, including:
- Understanding the difference between agency and corporate public relations and advertising
- Finding a nonprofit or government career path
- How to shine in an interview
- Social media and its role in the hiring process
- Finding your fit: establishing your role within an organization
- Promotions and moving up in a company.
“Students will be able to learn a lot from these professionals, gain knowledge about their majors and walk away feeling more prepared to enter the workforce,” said Kirsten Bowers, a senior public relations major and one of the co-chairs of the event.
Roundtable discussions will begin at 6 p.m., but students are invited to participate in resume critiques from 5:30 to 6 p.m.
To register, send an email to commconn2013@gmail.com with your name, class standing and major. Please indicate if you are a member of either PRSSA or FAA. Non-members will be asked to pay a $5 attendance fee at the door. The deadline to register is Nov. 1.
