What Is a Master’s in German Translation?

A German translation degree is the result of a postgraduate program that prepares students to pursue a career in the translation field. Specifically, a German translation master’s degree focuses on teaching and developing knowledge and skills for translating from German to English.

Not only does a German translator degree teach the basics of translation techniques, but students will also develop their cultural understanding and language proficiency through various courses. Part of this degree requires students to take part in translation exercises that will give them hands-on experience and practice.

The curriculum of a German translation master’s degree can differ and covers a wide range of topics. However, some of the most common topics include:

  • Applied translation theory
  • Research skills for translation
  • Computer-assisted translation technologies
  • Intercultural communication

Additionally, it is important to note that the master’s in German translation program trains students for different scenarios of translation, including technical, legal, and literary translation. Gaining experience in all three of these translation areas will prepare students for a successful future in the field.
