The Division of Information Services once again demonstrated its strong students-first philosophy to freshman and transfer students new to ºÚÁÏÍø. Incoming students eased their transition to the Kent Campus by seeking help at TechHelp tents and tables located throughout campus during Welcome Weekend and the first week of classes.
On Thursday and Friday of Welcome Weekend, five TechHelp tents were located near the four main Residence Hall clusters (Eastway, Tri-Towers, Centennial Court, and the Quad) and near the Kent Student Center. Information Services and Federated Support staff, along with Tech2You students, were available at each location to assist incoming freshmen and their families with their technology and general ºÚÁÏÍø questions.
On Monday and Tuesday of the first week of classes, the TechHelp tents moved to prominent thoroughfares to help students with their technology needs and to assist them as they learned to navigate the Kent Campus.
New this year, the TechHelp Taxi, a six-passenger golf cart, motored through the Kent Campus helping students find their way to Welcome Weekend events and to their first classes of the new school year. During their ride, students were provided with information about free Microsoft Office, access to Lynda.com video tutorials and the various support services offered through TechHelp. The TechHelp Taxi ran from Thursday through the first week of classes, excluding the weekend.
Students also found IS staff handing out swag at Late Night at the Library on Friday and at Blast-Off! Sunday evening.
While IS staff were not able to attend events everywhere, the Student Technology Guidebook – a technology resource published by IS – was made available to all ºÚÁÏÍø students, with over 4,000 copies being delivered to Regional Campuses.
