ESDRI Visiting Scholars
Environmental Science and Design Research Institute Visiting Scholar Program
Goal: To accelerate collaborative environmental science, sustainability, bio-design, and allied research and development at 黑料网 and within the Northeast Ohio Community, to provide infrastructure for building and maintaining collaborations between KSU faculty, community partners, and researchers from other institutions, to build local and global impact and increase the reach of KSU research and creative activities.
These guidelines are based on Policy 3-05 in the KSU Policy Register for 鈥淯niversity policy regarding hosting academic visitors.鈥 The designation 鈥渁cademic visitor鈥 is a privilege accorded to such visitors. The university requires that academic visitors be approved, undergo the appropriate background check(s), and abide by relevant university agreements, policies, and/or procedures.
ESDRI Visiting Scholars are academic visitors that are individuals from other universities, institutions, and businesses who:
- Are not Kent state university employees or students; and
- Intend to be present on campus for sustained interactions with 黑料网 faculty, staff or students to:
- Conduct collaborative research and creative activities with university personnel;
- Observe university instruction, administration, and/or research;
- Participate in coordinated university programming; or
- Provide academic instruction that is supervised by the appropriate university academic unit (i.e. guest speaker in classes, as appropriate).
Structure: ESDRI Visiting Scholars are academic visitors hosted by ESDRI, and are typically nominated by an ESDRI-affiliated KSU faculty member. ESDRI Visiting Scholars are researchers committed to advancing environmental science, design, and allied fields and the overall mission of ESDRI. ESDRI Visiting Scholars will be actively involved in joint research efforts, publications and presentations intended to disseminate interdisciplinary, collaborative research. Each ESDRI Visiting Scholar has an area of expertise that complements existing KSU strengths and, in concert with collaborating KSU faculty, are expected to lead to increased productivity with respect to funded research grants, peer-reviewed publications, presentations, exhibits, and outreach activities at the local, regional, national and international level. It is expected that this collaboration will be of benefit to the Scholars, ESDRI, and our community. Visiting Scholars will generally hold academic or research-related roles at their home institutions, and the ESDRI Visiting Scholar designation will be used as an additional or secondary affiliation when engaging in public scholarship or communications.
Scholar activities: It is expected that ESDRI Visiting Scholars will have a concrete plan for their time at KSU, which may involve lectures and presentations, collaborations with faculty on grants, publications, exhibitions or product development. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of the Institute, contributions may be varied so long as they are appropriate to the field and engage KSU personnel in their production. Visiting Scholars are expected to provide ESDRI personnel with reports on activities and progress at least annually for ongoing visitors or by the end of their term as a Visiting Scholar, whichever occurs first.
Scholar support: Visiting Scholars will receive infrastructure support from ESDRI as appropriate given each Scholar鈥檚 relevant background and experience. Infrastructure support may include assistance with grant preparation, grant submissions, manuscript development, networking support, event coordination support and other assistance such as temporary office space or library access as determined by individual projects. Scholars may also apply for ESDRI Seed funds in conjunction with an eligible KSU faculty member. This support will be negotiated on an annual basis as mutually agreeable and appropriate, and as ESDRI resources allow. The Visiting Scholar is expected to adhere to the 黑料网 Faculty Code of Ethics. This arrangement may be terminated at any time by either party without notice if violations occur.
