Dawn Plug, associate director of ’s Center for Adult and Veteran Services, has been appointed to a position on the Association of Veterans Education Certifying Officials’ Board of Directors, serving as the only representative from Ohio.
Plug will be one of 10 board members representing 18 states. She will help plan, train and engage administrators and counselors of veterans’ education benefits in higher learning institutions through a conference near the Department of Veterans Affairs’ St. Louis Regional Benefit Office from June 19-23.
Plug says holding a position on the board will help give a stronger voice and presence nationwide, as well as build ’s brand as a military-friendly school.
“I feel like this is a good way for to be more regionally known in the veterans certifying world,” Plug says. “I’m glad that I get to represent along with Ohio.”
Plug says some of her new responsibilities will include helping gather information about schools and school certifying officials to plan and execute the conference in June as well as work on the organization’s website and listserv.
“Here at , we have such a diversity of programs – everything from a podiatry college to a flight program,” Plug says. “Most schools only have a narrow focus, and I’m excited to be a part of the conversation from a larger school perspective.”
Plug is currently the only school certifying official at , but she is working on hiring a program coordinator later this semester to help with the workload. The program coordinator also would attend the conference.
