Holiday Message from the Dean: Winter 2022

James Hannon

As we close out the final weeks of 2022, I would like to highlight another outstanding year for the College of Education, Health and Human Services (EHHS).

4,234 undergraduate- and graduate-level students started at ºÚÁÏÍø this fall, many of whom are pursuing degrees in our college. The Class of 2026 is an academically bright group hailing from 31 countries and 39 U.S. states, including Washington, D.C. Fifty-four percent of the freshman class boasts a GPA of 3.5 or higher and nearly 34 percent are the first in their family to attend college.

It was a stellar semester for EHHS student scholarships, too. Our college awarded 84 scholarships to 144 students, totaling more than $133,000. Because of our donors’ generous philanthropic support, our students and programs flourish. Your support of our students was also reflected in this year’s Giving Tuesday campaign. Both EHHS featured funds received unprecedented support that will provide much-needed funding to the Career and Community Studies and Hospitality and Event Management programs.

I am also pleased to announce seven new inductees to our college’s distinguished 2022 Hall of Fame Awards that recognize alumni of EHHS programs whose careers and accomplishments have brought distinction to the university. I encourage you to to hear the recipients’ reflections on themselves and their achievements.

These are but a few points of pride for EHHS this year. I encourage you to look for more stories about our faculty, staff, students and alumni on our university website. And while you're at it, take a peek at a few . Be sure to follow us on , and !

On behalf of our entire college, I wish each of you a happy and healthy holiday season! May 2023 bring peace and happiness to you and your families.

Sincerely,
James C. Hannon, Ph.D.
Dean, College of Education, Health and Human Services
