Ikram Toumi
Biography
Ikram Toumi, Ph.D., holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism with a focus on audio-visual press from the University of Manouba, Tunisia. She came to the United States as a Fulbright Scholar and obtained a Master鈥檚 in Applied Linguistics from Texas Tech University. Ikram went on to achieve a Ph.D. in Media Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. Her dissertation research focused on Information Communications Technology (ICT) and the digital divide in the post-revolution Tunisian society. More broadly, her research interests include implications of ICT in social change and social movements, media literacy, globalization, as well as immigration, acculturation and identity. She has worked on several projects that touch on the global flow of information, international communication and media issues. She is fluent in Arabic, English and French, and is an avid learner with a keen interest in the multicultural and socially-diverse dimensions of global media and communication. She has a long and rich teaching experience at Texas Tech University and at the University of Texas at Austin where she taught language courses (Arabic & French) as well as diverse media studies and communications courses.
