黑料网 at Ashtabula鈥檚 Associate Degree in Nursing program inducted the three newest members to the Gamma Sigma chapter of the Alpha Delta Nu honor society on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 with a ceremony and reception in the Blue & Gold Room. Second-year nursing students Katie Cumberledge, Taylor Lamb-Kutz and Melissa Williamson represent the newest class to the Ashtabula Campus chapter.
The Alpha Delta Nu Honor Society was founded with the intention to promote scholarship and academic excellence in the nursing profession. Alpha Delta Nu encourages the pursuit of advanced degrees in nursing as well as continuing education as a life-long professional responsibility.
During the ceremony, each inductee was presented with an honor certificate, peach honor cord and organization pin. The honor cord and pin are to be worn at pinning and graduation ceremonies.
In addition to maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and earning a 鈥淏鈥 or better in every nursing class, the students were also responsible for developing a project that would benefit the nursing program in a significant way.
The students鈥 project focused on mental health and wellness for first-semester students, primarily through supporting novice nursing students in transitioning into the expectations and rigors of the nursing program. Mental health 鈥渢oolboxes鈥, intervention development, career focus and potential professional pathways were discussed throughout a series of sessions with new students as well as distribution of self-care kits and peer support.
鈥淚t was a privilege to be able to collaborate with the students with their project, which made a meaningful contribution to the first semester nursing students,鈥 said Tamra Courey, DNP, RN, CNE and Lora Morris-Chiacchiero, DNP, MSN, RN, associate professors of nursing and faculty co-advisors. 鈥淓ach student conveyed a commitment to excellence and were genuinely concerned about influencing the health, wellness, and academic success of their peers by sharing their journey and strategies from their perspective.鈥
