REFERRING STUDENTS 

The Academic Success Center (ASC) helps students become independent learners through a variety of academic support options.  All ASC services are free to ºÚÁÏÍø students.

Send your students to us!  For in-person assistance, the ASC is located in the Center for Undergraduate Excellence (CUE), Suite 114 and is staffed Monday through Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm.  Students can also find information about all of our services on our website (/asc), or via phone (330-672-3190), or email (asc@kent.edu).

Use KSU Navigate to help students find ASC support! Once a student is registered for classes, they can log in to KSU Navigate to see and schedule with all of the academic support options available to them, including tutoring, academic coaching, supplemental instruction, advising, and more!

Scheduled Tutoring - [begins second week of classes; can schedule starting first day of classes] 
Looking for focused support? Choose one-time or recurring weekly appointments, available for a wide variety of courses. Students can have two, 50-minute scheduled appointments per class, per week. Click here to make an appointment! Scheduled tutoring will be available online and/or in-person.

Drop-In Tutoring - [begins second week of classes] 
Quick question? Drop-in is the answer! Available for multiple Science and Math courses. Check out the drop-in schedule on our website to see which days, times and locations your course is supported. Drop-in tutoring will be available in-person.

eTutoring - [available starting first week of classes] 
Active ºÚÁÏÍø students have free access to an eTutoring service provided by peer and professional tutors from colleges and universities across Ohio. Tutors can help with content but may not know about ºÚÁÏÍø specific courses or professors. Supported courses vary each semester but may include Accounting, Anatomy & Physiology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, and Writing. First-time users will need to create an account by following the easy instructions provided on the ASC website, and then it’s click and select your tutoring session from there!

Supplemental Instruction - [begins second week of classes] 
Supplemental Instruction (SI) provides structured group study sessions led by a trained peer facilitator who plans games and activities to review difficult course concepts. Sessions are offered multiple times each week, giving students the opportunity to study with peers and develop course-specific learning strategies. Check out the SI schedule on our website to see when sessions for your course are held. SI sessions will be available online and/or in-person.

Academic Coaching - [begins second week of classes; can schedule starting first day of classes] 
Academic Coaching is a one-on-one service that is personalized to each student’s strengths, needs, and goals. Academic Coaches help students to implement effective time management and learning skills to best equip students for work-life balance and effective, efficient learning for any course. to make an appointment! Coaching will be available online and/or in-person.

Learning Skills 
Looking for a quick study skill refresh or need some new strategies to tackle your courses? We’ve got you covered! Check out our on-demand video workshops or request a live workshop. Topics include time management, creating study tools, note taking, testing, and online learning. While you are there, take a look at the success tips videos student leaders have created to share their best advice with students. For more personalized assistance, students can schedule a coaching appointment (see above).

Testing Services 
The Academic Success Center offers an optimal environment for paper and computer-based testing and placement. We adhere to the professional standards set forth by the and commit to providing high-quality student service within a secure and comfortable setting. At the Kent campus, we offer ACT-Residual to students seeking admission to KSU, ALEKS Placement for Math, Webcape for foreign language placement, CLEP (College Level Examination Program), Proctored Exams with instructor request and Writing Reassessment.

Placement 
Undergraduate students may be required to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in Mathematics, Foreign Language, English (Writing), and Reading prior to initial course registration. The need for placement assessments is determined by a student’s major or college requirements. Students should log in to FlashLine and view their My Lists tab (top right corner) to view their checklist requirements including required placement assessments. Online placement assessments for Fall semester will be available in March and assessments for Spring semester will be available in September. To be best prepared for your new or transfer student orientation, all placement assessments should be completed no later than 72 hours before your campus visit.
