Kent, OH – The School of Fashion at ºÚÁÏÍø is thrilled to announce that Michelle Burton, Ph.D. will join the faculty as assistant professor beginning in Fall 2022.
"We are pleased to announce that Dr. Michelle Burton will join the School of Fashion as an Assistant Professor," said associate school director Noël Palomo-Lovinski. "Dr. Burton's focus of research is sustainability and consumer behavior. She has taught at University of North Texas, Southern New Hampshire University, and consulted at TOMS, the ethical shoe company. We look forward to welcoming Dr. Burton in the Fall of 2022 to our ºÚÁÏÍø family!
Dr. Michelle Burton received her B.B.A in Marketing from the University of Houston and M.S. in Merchandising from the University of North Texas. After graduating from UNT she pursued a career in the retail industry and worked for many notable retailers such as Nordstrom, JCPenney, and Macy’s in varying levels of positions within the buying office ranging from allocation to merchandise planning. While working in the buying offices she also taught for many years online and enjoyed helping students realize their dreams by obtaining a degree. To blend her love of retail with her passion for research and teaching others she returned to Iowa State University to earn her Ph.D. in Apparel, Merchandising, and Design.
Burton's research interests include the consumer’s engagement in sustainability practices, the impact of these practices on mental health, circular business models, and educational platforms (e.g., digital/social media) encouraging sustainability practices. Dr. Burton also serves in several organizations such as Educators for Socially Responsible Apparel Practices (ESRAP) and International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA). She considers herself a lifelong learner with a passion for running, enjoying the outdoors, and actively involving herself in organizations such as Girls on the Run.
